Who We Are

Leeds and Grenville Labour Council has over a dozen affiliated union locals and represents 3000+ members. We support the programs and policies of the CLC. Our day-to-day operations, along with additional actions requested by the CLC or federations of labour, in most cases, are undertaken by volunteer trade union activists.

Our young Leeds and Grenville Labour Council is continuing to expand its activities beyond our two key annual community events which we hold: the National Day of Mourning Ceremony (28 April) and the Labour Day Picnic and Celebrations (first Monday of September). We lobby the various levels of government (municipal, provincial and federal) to secure decisions and legislation which will promote the principle of free collective bargaining, the rights of workers, and the security and welfare of all people. We support affiliates and their initiatives and causes which may include helping to organize community events, such as informative town hall style meetings, petition signing, and attending rallies. We promote the work of groups that advocate for injured workers and fight for their rights and just treatment. We engage in, and volunteer at, community and charity events. We support local movements and form partnerships, both formal and informal, with other community groups. We offer various educational and training opportunities. We support local unions and their members during job action and strikes.
